The Real Tiny Tower

Tiny Tower is great app with even greater potential – but at the end of the day, it is still just a game. This is the part that confuses most people – even those who have managed to maintain their control over Tiny Tower – it is just a game.

For those who have been living in an ivory tower of their own and have not even heard of the Tiny Tower, it is a free iPhone game. Here is how the game goes. Imagine managing a store with only three products, and you are in charge of the employees and the inventory. Managing the store is simple enough, but increase the number of stores to cover a whole floor of a building – still simple? Now, take charge of the whole building – maybe now it is a little challenging, depending on the number of floors the building has.

But you are also in charge of the construction of the building, and how many floors are dedicated to commercial or residential purposes – your employees need to live somewhere after all. The largest number of floors on a Tiny Tower games is supposed to be at 121 floors, with each floor containing several stores or residences, each store with several employees, and the three three items in the inventory, with the whole lot leaving you in charge. Each business on your building has to be profitable to maintain the building with the option of adding more floors. And that is a Tiny Tower game.

The Elements of the Game

Tiny Tower focuses on the varying conditions of only four elements – the happiness of the Bitizens, or your employees and residents in the building, the supply of your three items in the inventory for each business in the building, the coins or Bux that you make off each business and then the building itself, and how many floors are finished, under construction or being planned.

The operations of each store depend on how fast you resupply your item inventory. This results in more profit, and also employment of your Bitizens. The happiness of your Bitizens depends if they are happy or not in their jobs, or if they are even employed. Profit also creates an opportunity for you to expand your operations by the gold coins you earn. If your profits are low, you also have an option of buying one Bux for a dollar, and when managed well, that solitary Bux will go a long way.

The Problem with Tiny Tower

The game is just extremely engrossing – that is the only problem with Tiny Tower. Managing several floors is bound to take up all of your free time, and you have to keep track of all the changes and improvements in Tiny Tower – it is so easy to get lost in the details. For the obsessive compulsive, Tiny Tower is not recommended, simply because all the details are changing all the time, and in the name of maximum efficiency, you really have to focus just to keep things from falling apart. Tiny Tower has no end scenario when neglected, but the problems of Tiny Tower are just going nag at you all the time and eventually take your life away.

The Solution to Tiny Tower Addictions

Do you have any idea at all how much effort it takes to run a business? If you are playing Tiny Tower, and you have maybe just even four floors in the game, you could probably run a small business all by yourself. If you reach the fifty floor level, a medium scale business will be perfect for you. If you are operating in the hundred floors and making profit at the same time, you can probably micromanage a global multinational company. One big difference between Tiny Tower and the real world is that with the app, your Bitizens are not real people, just algorithms designed to make your life harder. In the real world, some people are also like that, but you can always fire them, and leave your business with good productive employees.

And that is the one big flaw of Tiny Tower. It takes away your time. For training in business, Tiny Tower is a great tool – knowing the difference between when you are just keeping up with events or if things are going according to plan is already a valuable skill in the real world. Tiny Tower can give you that opportunity, but when you let Tiny Tower take away your time and that opportunity to practice it in the real world, you are way off course already.
