Kids are really fascinated with pet games. They like to take care of pets, play with them and even watch them grow. While the most popular pets are dogs and cats, Pocket Frogs brings something unique. If you like the idea of having virtual frogs (be it for you or the kids), then take some time to read our review before downloading the game.
About the Game
Pocket Frogs, created by NimbleBit, is similar to many other social pet-raising apps. If you do not know who NimbleBit are, they are the brains behind Fishtropolis, Omium, Moon Drop Scoops, Dizzypad, Textopolis and many more. Pocket Frogs is a fun addition to your iPhone, especially if you are fond of animals, and in this case, frogs! You will manage a frog nursery that breeds frogs that you can sell for profit or keep for pleasure.

The Gameplay
You will initially start with two frogs, one regular habitat, a nursery habitat and 1000 coins. Your goal is to breed the frogs and see their cool offspring. You can also sell them for profit, which you can use to buy upgrades. Frogs can get wild at the beginning. You can simply tap on a frog to get to know their happiness stats, breed, rarity, maturity and value. Tapping also enables the frog to move from one place to another. At the pond, you can tap the lily pads to make the frogs jump and snag a dragonfly along the way.
If you are lucky, the lily pads can generously give you special presents such as extra coins, rare frogs, stamps and potions to increase your frog’s quality of life. Besides taming the frogs, feeding them also increases their happiness meter. The frogs become tame only when a certain level of happiness is reached, and by taming, new options open up. When your tame frogs are in the pond, they will encounter other random frogs. This gives you the options to breed them or not.
User Interface
Pocket Frogs has a very vivid interface and the frogs are very responsive even to a gentle touch. The controls are very intuitive and simple, and the menus are also very easy to navigate through. Although you have many tasks to achieve, the game interface is really not that complicated.

Graphics and Sound Effects
The graphics employed in Pocket Frogs are very cartoonish, just like the many other apps available today. The quality of the images is really great. They are crisp, clear and colorful. The details are also fascinating. Meanwhile, the sound effects are a teaser to the actual habitat of these amphibians. The noises of the frogs, crickets and birds chirping are so real and the wonderful chant of nature is always there to represent the tranquility of the environment. When you tap on an old frog, you will hear a deep croak, and a high pitched croak from the young ones.
The Drawback
Similar to many other games, there’s a price to pay in order to speed things up in Pocket Frogs. When the game really gets so addicting, you might be tempted to make in-app purchases for stamps and growth potions. It’s really unnecessary to buy them with real money though as you can readily have them as gifts in the pond. Likewise, you can also grow your frogs rapidly even without a paid growth potion.
In addition to these drawbacks, there’s also a lack of tutorial or help and it is really quite difficult to pick things up early in the game. There’s also (and only) one physical template for the frogs, and so all frogs only differ in colors as well as the creative names the developers came up with. Do not expect to experience or play with amazing frog varieties.
Conclusion
Is this game really worth your time? Of course! Whether you’re into simulation type of games, or you’re a frog-lover yourself, Pocket Frogs is a fun game that you shouldn’t miss. For those who aren’t interested in the game, why don’t you try it out?
