Indulge Your Inner Deity With Pocket God

The iOS platform is home to thousands upon thousands of apps and games that keep us from getting bored, amuse us at times, and fulfill our many fantasies. Pocket God is one of those apps that make the impossible possible—and by impossible we mean that you get to act as the God that rules an island and its immediate surroundings. This title is very similar to the dynamics of The Sims, but with remarkable differences that we will explore in this review.

About the Game

Bolt Creative sells this title for the very affordable price of $0.99, but Pocket God is packed with all the fun of similar titles such as Lemmings and The Sims. In this game, you are the cruel Supreme Being that watches and rules over a tiny island. There are plenty of things that you can do as God (of course, within the context of the game), and we assure you that this will be a very entertaining game that will keep you occupied for hours on end.

Gameplay is relatively simple—all you have to do is to tap and hold on various items on the island and the seas surrounding it. You will begin with a single inhabitant in the island, but you will have access to an infinite supply of islanders to add into the island that you are ruling over. One of the first things that you might do is to kill the ones that you have started with—thus the need for the infinite supply of islanders to replenish the population for your island. If you are thinking of becoming a benevolent God, then maybe this game is not for you.

One of the many things that things that you can do to the islanders is to drag him to the ocean or up to the sky, or even drop him into a volcano if you feel like it. You can also control and interact with the animals and the plants in the island—you can pick coconuts from the only tree in the island to feed your islanders. And because you are the god of the island, you can also rule the weather. Drag clouds around the sky and cause torrential rains to fall on the island, or you can even zap the islanders with lightning that you have drawn yourself. You can even control the sun and the moon!

You can even control the gravity of the island with just a tilt of your device. If you shake your iPhone, you can even cause an earthquake.

User Interface

Everything in Pocket God is cleverly designed and the game uses the various functions of the iOS device of your choice in order to control various things in the game. You can freely experiment with these functions and there will be little negative effect to your progress in the game (of course, the same cannot be said for the poor islanders that might lose their lives in the process).

Graphics and Sound Effects

Graphics are richly detailed and colorful—even bordering on cute—but there is nothing really special about them. Sound effects, on the other hand, are another story—you can tap on the screen with the beat of the background music and in a few moments your islanders will be dancing along. This is one of our favorite features in the game.

The Drawback

One of the main issues with Pocket God is that there is no clear objective in the game. Once you have explored every available function, it gets quite boring. However, Bold Creative offers weekly upgrades that will enhance the gaming experience.

If you feel like you need more control in your life, then why not get this title for your iOS device and be the god of a small island? You are guaranteed hours upon hours of amusement, and with the regular updates that Bolt Creative is issuing, boredom will not be an issue within the immediate future.
