How To Turn Off iPod Nano

The most clichéd question that one comes across on the net on all iPod forums is “I can’t turn off my iPod Nano. Please help!” Well help is now at hand, for to turn off iPod Nano, the first thing that we all must understand is that the function of “Sleep” with iPods is same as turning it “Off”.

You need not turn off ipod nano once it is inactive, for this automatic sleep function of the iPod system helps the iPod from depleting its battery and also helps in providing maximum output of its battery strength. The “Sleep” mode in all iPods is the same as it also happens when you press the Play/Pause button and hold it for a few seconds longer than its normal limits. To wake the iPod from it’s ‘Sleep” all you need to do is to press any button in the device which wakes it from its sleeping mode.

That you cannot turn off ipod nano really helps the system to conserve its power and also help it to wake up quickly and activate its “Menu” bar. While the iPod is asleep and is powered with the help of its USB charger, you can see a charging status which appears on its screen. To turn off ipod nano (the 6G version of iPod) instead of just putting it off to “Sleep” which was the only option that was available with its predecessors, you need to lend yourself to the following steps as illustrated below.

• To turn off ipod nano 6G, primarily see that you are using an iPod OS which is 1.1 or even higher than that, in your Nano. (The last 6G iPod Nano OS update was released around February 2011)

• Now once you are running this software in your iPod Nano 6G, you can easily turn off ipod nano by pressing down the “Hold” button which is located on the top right hand side of your 6G iPod Nano system.

• Once this “Hold” button has been pressed to turn off ipod nano, you shall observe a progress wheel on the iPod screen until the Nano switches off and the screen subsequently becomes dark.

To turn on this switched off iPod Nano, all you need to do is to long press the “Hold” button once again which shall resumes it back to working state.

A word of caution while you turn off iPod Nano

It is important to understand that while the iPod Nano 6G is turned off, all Nano functions like Voice Memos, Pedometer and Music memory bank will also get erased as you turn off ipod nano. However, if you switch on your iPod Nano in less than 5 minutes of turning it off, the music that was last played will be remembered by the system and can be recalled back at your next command.
