Cooking Mama is a fun and exciting game to play. However, if you want to learn how to really cook, you might not want to take this game as your cooking lessons. The cooking done in this game is for entertainment purposes only. If you need to take cooking lessons, do so from professionals.
About the Game
Cooking Mama can get so intense at times so you really need to make sure that you have total control over your mobile device. More on that in a little bit.
Cooking Mama, like many successful games, was initially created by Taito for other platforms before a version for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad was released. Having a version created for the iPhone can somehow give you an idea of how successful the game really is.
The game itself is awesome, but another thing about that is awesome is its price. The iPhone version cost about half the price than the version for the DS.
Playing the game is simple. All you need to do is to prepare the ingredients for a recipe and if you can do this good enough, Mama will be satisfied. However, Mama doesn’t take failure very lightly and although she has a gorgeous face, her eyes can really make you feel unwanted if you fail.
Preparing the ingredients may sound simple, but in reality, there is some degree of difficulty involved. If you need to cut meat, stir ingredients, and chop vegetables, you can do this with a simple touch. If you need to knead and shape hamburger meat with both hands, you’ll need to shake your iPhone or iPod Touch. If you need to fry meat or vegetables and to melt some butter on a skillet, tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch.
Remember the advice about how the game can get so intense and you’ll need to make sure you have total control over your mobile device, preparing the ingredients requires that you shake and tilt your device so be careful not to let it go.
One of the secrets to success is speed and this is why the game can get so addictive. Never take too long in doing a task and never burn any of the recipes or you will lose points and gain a scolding from Mama.
The better you get at preparing the ingredients the more recipes you can unlock and the more Mama will appreciate your hard work.
This game takes a bit more practice playing then some other games made for the iPhone or iPod Touch. You’ll need to master a variety of actions to successfully complete the tasks given by Mama. There is shaking the device, tilting it, or simply touching the screen. The way you perform each action will decide in the end how well you did with the task.
Graphics & Sound Effects
The graphics of this game are what makes Mama so adorable and frightening at the same time. The graphics though is still pretty simple and straight forward, unlike many hi-tech graphics games. Graphics make the game seem like child’s play, but even adults have been attracted to the game.
Sound effects are also pretty awesome. The background music really drives up the intensity of the game and the kitchen sound effects make you feel like you were in a real kitchen.
Cooking Mama is an awesome iPhone app game, but let’s face it, at $6.99 it doesn’t come cheap. A person would expect a lot of extras for this amount of money. Unfortunately the basic game comes with a limited number of recipes and you can only play these a certain number of times before you get bored. There are more recipes that can be downloaded, but these come at $0.99 per recipe.
After paying a nice amount for the game, quite a number of people are very disappointed that they need to pay extra for one more recipe. How long will it take you to master that one recipe? The sooner you master it, the sooner you’ll need to buy another recipe.
There are also times when the game doesn’t seem to recognize your actions. Like tilting the device sometimes just won’t be recognized. This can cause you to lose time in preparing the dish and ultimately lose points as well.
Cooking Mama is a great game and it is really fun and exciting to prepare all of those dishes, even if they aren’t real. The game develops intensity as you progress which makes it even more challenging. Unfortunately, paying for additional recipes so that you can continue playing the game is a bit more than what most people would like to do.
